Areas of Work:
Heritage Youth Program: Mama Shushanna Shakur, with the help of Baba Chokwe Lumumba and Baba Kwame Kenyatta started Heritage Youth Program 16 years ago after the murder of her son Jeaco. HYP provides after school and summer programs for youth between the ages of 7-18. We offer homework assistance, Afrikan martial arts, Afrikan drumming and dance lessons, performance arts workshops, chess tournaments, and recreational activities.
State Of the City Community Conference
Community Activists come and give updates on the work that they are doing in the community: struggling for better education, pensions, water rights, fighting against election fraud, take over of our schools, museum, city etc.
Black History Program where we honor different members of our community and highlight our history: revolutionaries, artists, music
Kujichagulia KWANZAA Programs( consists of Afrikan Naming Ceremony, Dramatic/Poetic Vignettes, Film Productions or historical presentations.
We also have done solidarity work with the following grassroots organizations in Detroit
We The People, Black Legacy Coalition, Detroit Black Food Security Network, BYP100, and Detroit Homeless Task Force.
